The North West Infidels, a violent splinter from the English Defence League, are holding a demonstration in Bolton this Saturday. Greater Manchester Unite Against Fascism, Liverpool Antifascists and trade unionists in the North West have called a protest to oppose them.
The whole of Bolton came together after the tragedy that befell Fabrice Muamba, the Bolton Wanderers player who suffered a heart attack on the pitch during a match against Spurs. Muamba came to England aged 11 as a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo with not a word of English but within a few years had made his way into Premier League football. By coming to Bolton the NWI and EDL are delivering a massive insult to the town’s people of all communities.
Antifascists are asked to assemble in front of the Town Hall in Bolton at 11am. Liverpool Antifascists have organised transport from Liverpool but you should email firstname.lastname@example.org to check availability and for more details. For more information from Greater Manchester UAF, call Mike on 07903 586 191.
Recent events have shown that the NWI and their ilk have no interest in political respectability. They are openly violent and racist, and their stated desire is to defeat the left and control the streets by force. For these reasons, they need to be opposed wherever they go.
Despite the split between the EDL and NWI, EDL members are expected to turn out in support of the NWI and British National Party members posting on their party’s website were also urging supporters to attend.
