A Spanish neo-nazi who caused a public row three years ago when she was allowed into the UK to address a nazi rally, has been jailed by a court in Spain.
Isabel Peralta, leader of the Sección de Asalto (Assault Section) group, was charged following an unauthorised anti-immigration demonstration outside the Moroccan Embassy in 2021.
She was said to have grabbed a loudspeaker and screamed that “we are suffering unprecedented racial substitution,” called for “death to the invader,” and shouted slogans such as “it’s not immigration, it’s an invasion.”
The rally ended with riots and five arrests.
Denigrating vulnerable groups
Peralta was sentenced to one year in prison – less than the three and a half years requested by the prosecution.
“This is not about criminalizing dissenting opinions, but rather about combating actions aimed at denigrating vulnerable groups,” the judges said in their ruling.
The ruling rejected Peralta’s defence that her words were merely political criticism, saying that they were “obviously violent statements.”
Standing ovation
In 2023 Searchlight revealed that Peralta came to the UK to speak at a nazi rally in Preston organised by the British neo-nazi journal, Heritage and Destiny for which she is the Spanish correspondent. She received a rapturous standing ovation from the largely elderly, male audience.
But the decision to allow her into the country provoked a major row, and questions – which remain unanswered to this day – were put to then-Home Secretary Suella Braverman.
