So the Horley Patriots, calling a rally in Croydon today, announced the venue as Lunar House, the old Home Office Immigration HQ in Croydon, but gave the postcode for the spanking new headquarters in Ruskin Square.
Skulked away
Whether they got lost on their way from the abandoned Lunar House to Ruskin Square or they just never made it out of the pub is a mystery. But, whatever the reason, none turned up.
Online the group appears to have a core following of thirty or so but the only ones to appear were the occasional lone figures watching from across the road who, failing to spot any fellow ‘patriots’, quietly skulked way.
Winter sunshine
About a hundred and fifty anti-racist and anti-fascist activists enjoyed the winter sunshine, and the absence of the far right meant a pleasant outing for SUTR Croydon, south London trade unionists from NEU, PCS, UNISON, and Croydon TUC, Bromley + Croydon Unite Community, and Disabled People Against Cuts.

Others who joined were Eagles against Racism + Fascism (Crystal Palace FC fans), two local vicars and Croydon Community Action.
Home Office workers had been advised not to wear uniform or lanyards to work today because of the fascist threat. The staff and their security staff seemed relieved to see only our friendly faces outside.
