A speech in London to have been given by one of Poland’s leading far-right figures has been cancelled.
Searchlight revealed earlier this week that Robert Bąkiewicz, a prominent nationalist politician, was to deliver a talk on 26 April entitled ‘From Independence Marches to Defending Borders’, referring to his political career in Poland.
Bąkiewicz has held prominent positions in several right-wing, populist and nationalist parties and movements in Poland, including the Independence March Association, Law and Justice and the Border Defence Movement.
The latter organises ‘citizen patrols’ who attempt to prevent illegal immigrants entering via the German-Polish border.
The talk was being organised by the ‘Association for Independent Thought’ and was to be held at the Hammersmith-based Polish community centre POSK.
POSK has now contacted Searchlight to say that the meeting has been cancelled ‘for security reasons’.
This would have been the second meeting of the Association for Independent Thought‘ to be addressed by a far-right Polish speaker this year.
